Imposters believe they are the kings or queens of mambo, convinced that they will save the world and leave an extraordinary mark on their environment. Shortly afterwards it is understood that they are as mediocre, or even more so, than the rest of us mortals, and that the trail they leave is one of frustration, if not fraud. The Royal Academy of Language defines them as someone “who pretends or deceives with the appearance of the truth” and also “who falsely attributes something to someone”.
At this point we must clarify that we are not referring to Carlos Mazón, although in his farewell letter in which he writes that he “resigns from the position of President of the Generalitat” instead of recognizing his dismissal due to the indignity of his actions and statements, and of all the versions he offered about his behavior during the terrible damage of October 29 of last year, he tried to “pretend or deceive with the appearance of truth”; nor to his superior Alberto Núñez Feijóo who saw fit to defend the continuity of President Mazón before the victims of the damage, falsely attributing to him the correct management of the catastrophe and then praising his reform. “It’s the electoral prospects, stupid.”
And no, we are not referring to either of these two luminaries of Spanish politics, but to the 2017 series Impostorsin which a beautiful woman has long opted for a peculiar way of life: love, fraud and theft. He observes and chooses his prey, always rich, seduces them, marries them and shortly afterwards steals their savings and disappears and, of course, remains indifferent to the sex of his victims. What he cannot avoid is the trail of resentment he leaves in his wake, to the point that those affected by the beautiful lady decide to unite to perpetrate the desired revenge.
The four screenwriters of the North American production, created by Paul Adelstein and Adam Brooks, wind the entertainment loop and throughout the two seasons that SkyShowtime airs, the plot gradually transforms the scammer into a companion of the scammers, as they discover that everyone has a more dangerous enemy responsible for all their evils. Politicians, amorous linnets… a fauna that long ago Enrique Santos Discépolo sang lucidly in a tango: “There were always Machiavelli’s jets and frauds”.
