Death by lightning
Although series based on historical moments are nothing new, this four-episode miniseries brings together some attention-grabbing elements. On the one hand, it centers on the life and assassination of a short-lived (ruled from March to September 1881) and little-known American president, James A. Garfield. On the other hand, its executive producers are the creators of game of thronesDavid Benioff and DB Weiss. And its protagonists are Matthew Macfadyen (Succession) and Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire). There are enough elements for us to pay attention to the sad story of the twentieth president of the United States and Charles Guiteau, his admirer and later cause of the wounds that, aggravated by the incompetence of the doctors, caused his death.

Jakarta
Although the creator of this series is Diego San José (Come on Juan, eight Basque surnames, what a great week) and its protagonist is Javier Cámara, we are facing one of the great Spanish television dramas of the year. Joserra is a badminton coach who becomes attached to a promising 15-year-old girl, who he believes sees her best opportunity to win the Spanish championship and reach Jakarta, where former badminton players are adored. Together, they participate in tournaments in sports centers across Spain, while Joserra’s past and present wounds come to the surface. Possibly one of the greatest dramatic roles of Javier Cámara’s career; and keep an eye on the power of young Carla Quílez. Firm candidate for Spanish series of the year.

Pluribus
Screenwriter Vince Gilligan leaves the universe of Breaking Bad, which continued exploring in Better call Saul, to move on to science fiction. The creator once again trusts actress Rhea Seehorn (Kim Wexler in Better call Saul) as the absolute protagonist of this story with a tone halfway between comedy and mystery. Seehorn plays a romance writer whose life is turned upside down when something affecting the rest of humanity puts her in a completely unexpected situation: suddenly, the entire world becomes extremely kind and she just wants to save the world from this happiness. Little more can be said about a story that has mystery as one of its greatest strengths.

The role
The office It is, year after year, one of the most watched series in the world. Therefore, it was almost inevitable that sooner or later some kind of sequel would arrive. Your spirit is in The rolea comedy that recovers the mockumentary style and uncomfortable humor to now tell the day-to-day life in the newsroom of a local newspaper, the Truth Teller of Toledo. Its new editor wants to revive the print edition of this historic medium and, to do so, will turn to a group of people with no experience in journalism. Like any comedy, it needs time to adapt to its tone, for the characters to fit in, and to remove the long shadow of The officebecause your comparison can be your worst burden.

Anatomy of a moment
In his 2009 novel, Javier Cercas dissected the Transition based on an image, that of Civil Guard Lieutenant Colonel Antonio Tejero, with a gun in hand, in the Congress of Deputies with all the participants crouching down to protect themselves from the shots, except for three people who remained seated in their seats: Adolfo Suárez, Santiago Carrillo and Gutiérrez Mellado. The four-episode series directed by Alberto Rodríguez takes the novel as its starting point to recreate, with time jumps and Raúl Arévalo’s narration, the path that led up to that moment, following the journey of the three protagonists. Álvaro Morte plays Suárez, Eduard Fernández plays Carrillo and Manolo Solo plays Gutiérrez Mellado.

Stranger Things

One of Netflix’s greatest phenomena comes to an end. Those children who lived adventures in the Upside Down and fought the Demogorgon in 2016 are now teenagers in fiction played by adults in reality. Their adventures from the eighties, a tribute to the classics of cinema and literature that an entire generation grew up with, will end with an episode of eight episodes that will be divided into three parts: the first four chapters premiere on November 27th, the next three arrive on December 26th and for the final episode we will have to wait until January 1st (always at 2 am, Spanish peninsula time). The argument? Vecna has disappeared, the city is in military quarantine and the protagonists will have to reunite for the big final battle.

Blue Lights

The BBC crime drama set on the streets of Belfast has been described since its first season as the heir to Line of Dutyfollowing in the tradition of the great British police officers. Now, in its third season, critics have been divided between those who continue to applaud the series and those who are beginning to see signs of loss of its identity, that Irish environment that made it different. The new season takes place two years after the beginning and, therefore, two years after Grace, Annie and Tommy joined the police station. Now they have learned to survive on the streets and face an increasingly complex world that continues to affect them personally.
