The official Nintendo Museum book celebrates the 40th anniversary of Super Mario Bros. with a sketch of Taura Island, and Big N fans don’t know what to think.
This 2025 is not just any year for Mario, as we celebrate the 40th birthday of Nintendo’s legendary plumber with full honors. The Super Mario Galaxy + Super Mario Galaxy 2 compilation was a great gift, but looking ahead to 2026, a few more things await.
Since the release of the film super mario galaxy for next April 1st, including the Super Mario Bros. update. Wonder for Switch 2, and of course without forgetting releases like Mario Tennis Feverry Yoshi and the mysterious book.
Did you manage to visit the Nintendo Museum? It’s a dream come true for any Nintendo fan, where you can also get the official book with sketches of Super Mario for his 40th birthday.
However, user MAAV discovered an error (or so it seems) present among the illustrations of the plumber’s franchise, since it is a sketch of The Legend of Zelda ”camouflaged”.
This is what he made known to his followers both on the Bluesky social network and on ResetEra, generating an arduous debate among fans of Big N and both sagas:
”As I’m a huge Zelda Wind Waker fan, I couldn’t believe they mixed up the “Super Mario idea sketches” by adding the original Windfall Island sketches.”.
What if Isla Taura was born for the Mario saga?
This Nintendo fan was excited to finish his visit to such an emblematic place in the history of video games, so he didn’t hesitate to buy the Official Nintendo Museum Book, which has a section called ”Super Mario Bros. 40th Anniversary Special”.
What MAAV didn’t expect is that, among illustrations of Mario’s characters, scenarios and enemies, there would be a drawing of Taura Island, or Windfall Islandthat we visited in Zelda: Wind Waker.
There are two possibilities. The first is that, as everyone suspects, it is an error by the layout designer responsible for the bookwhich included the aforementioned Wind Waker sketch among the Super Mario Bros. designs.
”This is likely because the person who did the layout inserted or linked the wrong image on a page during the process and no one noticed the error until the book was already printed.” says tonyhawkspotter2.
However, there is also the option of Taura Island was created as the setting for a Mario game. AND Super Mario Luz do Solof the Gamecube, is the one that has all the votes.
Furthermore, interestingly both Gamecube games were designed by Yoshiaki Koizumiso it’s possible they decided to use the island for Wind Waker, despite it originally being part of Sunshine.
”It seems like a mistake, of course, but it’s entirely possible that the island was originally designed for Mario and then adapted for Zelda. Both sagas influenced each other in many ways, especially at that time” says RunningKong.
We await clarification Shigeru MiyamotoOf course, but we prefer to stick with the second option. We remind you that The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker is available on Nintendo Switch Online for Switch 2, and Super Mario Sunshine will follow the same path.
