One of the films that many veterans remember fondly from their childhood is The Goonies, released in 1985, a high-caliber blockbuster for the time, with a script written by Chris Colombo and with the participation of Steven Spielberg himself as producer and co-writer.
However, what few know is that during the filming of The Goonies An unexpected incident occurred that endangered everyone present, including Spielberg himself, who had to be urgently evacuated from the scene..
The event took place in Astoria (Oregon), where several scenes from the film were filmed. According to former police officer David Johnson in an interview a few years ago, local police received several calls warning that “car windows were exploding” near the filming area due to gunfire.
Authorities discovered that the shots came from a house located just meters from the famous Goonies house. Spielberg, who in addition to being a producer also supervised part of the filming, was immediately removed from the set as a precaution.
Shortly afterwards, the agents located the source of the shots and discovered, to their surprise, that those responsible were two children just 10 years old. According to the investigation, the parents had gone to the hospital, leaving the little ones alone at home.
Bored, the children found their father’s .22 caliber rifle and began shooting from his bedroom window, apparently unaware of the seriousness of his actions..
The shots broke the windows of several vehicles and even grazed a person who was mowing the grass on the other side of the street, although fortunately there were no injuries.
The incident did not worsen and production on The Goonies resumed shortly afterwards without any major setbacks. Even so, this episode became one of those little-known anecdotes that marked the filming of one of the most beloved films of the 80s.
