It’s been a while since Destiny 2 has been the most successful multiplayer title of the past, so Sony and Bungie are looking for a way to keep the 2017 game as a competitive option against Fortnite or the new Arc Raiders.
Sony’s CFO has already acknowledged that Destiny 2 is underperforming and that its latest expansion (The Ends of Destiny) saw the light a few months ago.
With Marathon they are also not overly optimistic, as Bungie’s new shooter remains undated (it will arrive in 2026 for PS5, Xbox and PC), after starring in a series of controversies this year.
What’s left for Bungie to get out of this crisis? Simple: launch a new Destiny game. We don’t talk about a mobile spin-off like Destiny: Risingbut the desired Destiny 3.
Apparently, Bungie canceled a new title in the franchise known internally as Payback, but now a new rumor places Destiny 3 as the Sony studio’s next project.
This is confirmed by Colony Deaks on Twitter/X, so fans of the saga are in luck: Destiny 3 would be in development at Bungie.
Destiny 3 exists, but it’s too early to talk about it
One of the most well-known Destiny leak accounts on social media confirmed what every fan would like to hear: yes, Destiny 3 is in developmentBut that’s not as good news as it sounds.
A third installment is in development by Bungie, but be careful as It is still at a very early stage. In practice, we can say that it is a conceptual phase.
”Destiny 3 is in an early stage of development. We’ve been holding the information for a few weeks and wanted to wait to talk about it as it’s at an early stage”.
Colony Deaks guarantees that the information has been circulating for a long time, but they preferred not to comment because the project is still in a very early phase, and may be canceled or major changes may occur.
”We plan to share more information in the coming months as we wait for larger-scale things to develop and take shape. Don’t despair”.
If Destiny 3 is ready by the end of this decade, it may be too late for Bungie, as the studio is on track to integrate with PlayStation Studios. The question is: Will you maintain your autonomy as a team?
For now, Destiny 2 continues to receive updates (such as the deserters, Star Wars collaboration included), and months ago the expansion The Edges of Destiny was released for PlayStation, Xbox and PC.
