Evolving our favorite Pokémon has always been one of the most fun parts of the license, but not everyone does it the same way.
In Pokémon ZA Legends, Inkay’s evolution into Malamar is especially unique and requires a procedure that goes beyond simply leveling up or using an evolutionary stone.
Unlike most Pokémon, Inkay does not evolve in a conventional way. Your transformation depends on physical action with your Nintendo Switch console, a nostalgic homage to the franchise’s original games.
How to evolve Inkay into Malamar in Pokémon ZA Legends
Finding Inkay
Before you think about evolving it, you first need to capture Inkay. This Pokémon is mainly found in Wild Area 11, although it can be a bit elusive, so a little luck always helps.
By advancing the story to Mission 19, a new location is unlocked where you can find a greater number of Inkay, making them easier to capture.
Once you have Inkay, you need to make sure he reaches level 30. If you caught him below that level, you will need to train him until he meets the requirements. When Inkay reaches level 30, add him to your active team and prepare for the most curious part of his evolution.
Evolving Inkay
In order for Inkay to evolve into Malamar, you will have to interact directly with the console in handheld mode.
If you’re playing with the Switch docked, you’ll need to disconnect it first. Then make sure to put the console to sleep so that all connections are restored correctly.
If you are using a Pro Controller or other accessory, disconnect it as the Evolution will not work with external controllers as it requires you to hold the console directly in your hands.
The next step is to turn the Nintendo Switch upside down. Keep the console in this position until the game detects the new orientation.
At this point, open your team menu, select Inkay and the “Evolve” option will appear. It is important that you do not return the console to its original position before pressing the button, as evolution will only work while the console is facing down..
After pressing “Evolve”, wait for the process to finish and you will see how Inkay transforms into Malamar.
