The current video game industry would be impossible to understand without the purchase and sale of development studieswith recent examples such as EA and Ubisoft, not to mention multimillion-dollar operations such as Microsoft’s purchase of Activision Blizzard King.
We also have the case of Sony’s purchase of Bungie, but Nintendo is, by far, the most restrained when it comes to making large disbursements to acquire studios.
In 2024 they took over 100% of Monolith Soft, after acquiring Next Level Games for their good work with Luigi’s Mansion 3 in early 2021, and now Big N announced a new purchase.
Through its official website, the Kyoto-based company confirms the purchase of Bandai Namco Studios Singaporeone of the most important teams in the Japanese company.
Bandai Namco’s Singapore division was instrumental to Nintendo during the development of Splatoon 3, and after years of collaboration, president Shuntaro Furukawa gave the green light for the operation.
In this way, Bandai Namco Studios Singapore becomes new subsidiary of Big N, under the official name of Nintendo Studios Singapore.
Nintendo strengthens itself with a new subsidiary in Singapore
Nintendo reached an agreement with Bandai Namco Studios to transfer shares, and thus finalize the purchase of Bandai Namco Studios Singapore on April 1, 2026.
In other words, Nintendo will consolidate the purchase operation when the next fiscal year begins, in order to reinforce its structure and thus guarantee a competitive pace with its projects.
”Subject to compliance with all customary conditions relevant to transactions of this nature, Nintendo plans to acquire 80% of BNSS shares on April 1, 2026. The remaining shares will be acquired after a certain period, once the subsidiary’s operations have stabilized.”.
The result is that Bandai Namco Studios Singapore will become Nintendo Studios Singaporea new subsidiary of the Japanese company based in Kyoto.
”Taking this business history into account, Nintendo made the decision to acquire shares in BNSS to strengthen the development structure of the Nintendo Group”.
Although it is an external studio belonging to Bandai Namco, the truth is that Nintendo has been working with the Singapore team for years and the most recent example is Splatoon 3.
Nintendo Studios Singapore joins the company’s other first-party developers, such as Gentle Monolith (Xenoblade Chronicles), retro studios (Metroid Prime 4: Beyond), Next Level Games (Luigi’s Mansion 3), among others such as Nintendo Cube, Mario Club any SRD.
