Pixar and Disney’s most iconic toys return to the big screen with toy story 5a new film directed by Andrew Stanton which brings back the original voice cast led by Tom Hanks and Tim Allen.
In this new edition, children leave traditional toys aside to pay more attention to electronic games. Seeing how technology invades homes, Jessie goes in search of Woody to reunite him with Buzz and the rest of the group and, together, try to deal with this big problem that arises..
Although it is interesting to see how the protagonists of the successful franchise deal with modern times, there is also a certain feeling of rejection on the part of many older fans, as they consider that the saga was concluded very well in the third film.
Despite this, Disney and Pixar released a fourth episode in which the plot of their protagonists was concluded again, with Woody heading towards a new life as a lost toy, separating himself from his old friends.
This is why many fans don’t like the fact that the gum keeps being stretched with a new film, no matter how interesting it is. However, its director doesn’t agree on anything and believes the franchise can continue to expand seamlessly for a new generation of viewers.
Andrew Stanton justifies toy story 5 and franchise expansion
During an interview with Empire magazine, the director of Toy Story 5, Andrew Stanton, is pleased with the fact that the animated saga continues despite previous endings, as he believes that the franchise can adapt very well over time.
The filmmaker justifies ensuring that longtime fans get their perfect ending in toy story 3 and it’s their decision whether or not they want to move forward.. In turn, younger viewers will feel more identified with the later films, as they are more focused on the way today’s children interact with their toys.
“So 3 was the end… of the Andy era. No one is left without their trilogy. They can enjoy it and not see others if they don’t want to. But I’ve always loved how this world allows us to accept the passage of time and change. There is no guarantee that it will be frozen in time”, comments the director, insinuating that there could be more films by toy story on the way.
toy story 5 opens in cinemas in Spain on June 19, 2026. Do you think there should be more films in the saga or should the franchise come to an end once and for all?
