Sony announced a new digital model of the PS5 exclusive to the Japanese market, cheaper and with a regional block to avoid tariffs and profiteers.
During State of Play on November 11, Sony announced a new version of the digital PS5, exclusive to the Japanese market, just as it has been spread in recent days. A similar launch to the region-locked Nintendo Switch 2 we saw earlier this year.
Named as “PlayStation 5 Digital Edition – Japanese only” will be on sale on November 21st, at a price of 55,000 yen, which in our currency, at the exchange rate, is around 308 euros. It’s significantly cheaper than a regular digital PS5,
That new PS5 digital edition – Japanese Only is a new model of the console intended exclusively for use in Japan. It can only be used with a PlayStation account where the system language is set to Japanese and the region is set to Japan.
This new model retains all the technical features that define the PS5 experiencefrom the ultra-fast SSD (with 825 GB storage capacity) to 3D audio or backwards compatibility with PS4 games, the Dualsense wireless controller (with its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers).
Despite being released in digital version, it is still possible Buy a separate disc drive and connect it to this new PS5 console to enjoy physical gamesin addition to having a partially redesigned body and a matte finish on the cover.
This announcement came today, when PS5 celebrates fifth anniversary of its launch in Japanafter having reached milestones such as more than 4,500 titles sold in Japan or having surpassed 84.2 million consoles sold.
A great opportunity for many Japanese players to enjoy exclusives like Death Stranding 2: On the Beach or Ghost of Yōtei, without forgetting everything that’s coming, from Resident Evil Requiem to Dragon Quest VII Reimagined, Nioh 3, or Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls, among others.
Great news for the Japanese public, in addition to the recent PS Portal update that allows you to play via streaming without the need for a PS5, as long as you are a PS Plus subscriber.
