In a matter of weeks, the scenario changed radically to the Yellowstone Universewhich may be facing its imminent end.
Until less than a month ago, there was some certainty that Western fans would have a safe haven in Yellowstone Universe. Born from the series co-created by Taylor Sheridan and John Linsonthe franchise has been growing and has really promising future plans.
In addition to the main series, and despite that abrupt ending that marked Kevin Costner’s departure as John Dutton IIIthe central character around whom all the characters orbited, yellow stone has already given us two prequels: 1883 and 1923.
In the same vein, Taylor Sheridan announced some time ago 1944which would narrate the challenges that the Dutton family faced in the context of the Second World War.
The other announced spin-offs were contemporary and, in one way or another, took advantage of the end of the main series as a starting point. The first is The Dutton Rancha spin-off series that focuses on the characters of Cole Hauser and Kelly Reillynamely, Rip Wheeler and Beth Dutton. The two move to a new farm to start fresh, but the past always comes back.
Secondly is Y: Marshalsa series focused on Kayce Duttoncarried out by Luke Grimes. After returning the Yellowstone lands to the native reservation, Kayce joins a US Marshals unit operating in Montana. The series partially moves away from the Western to focus on a procedural premise.
So we have Madisona series that, today, is difficult to link yellow stone for its premise. It follows a family who, after a tragedy, moves to the titular valley (Madison) in Montana to start over and heal their wounds.
The last place we have 6666a project that is not clear what status it is in, as it was already announced a few years ago. Presumably, it will center on the Four Sixes Texas ranch owned by Taylor Sheridan’s character, Travis Wheatley. The plot is expected to focus on Jimmy Hurdstrom (Jefferson Branco).
These are all confirmed projects, some even with production completed, such as Madisonand with release dates or windows already notified. What’s the problem? Taylor Sheridan is preparing to leave Paramount behind, which leaves an uncertain future for him Yellowstone Universe.
What will happen to the spin-offs of yellow stone?
In 2028, Taylor Sheridan’s contract with Paramount to create series expires, and it is already known that she will not continue, but will start working with NBCUniversal. In fact, when it comes to films, the collaboration will begin earlier, in 2026.
This leaves a margin of 2 to 3 years in which Taylor Sheridan will continue working on her series for Paramount+ and CBS (where Y: Marshals will premiere). Although in Spain, for now, there is no need to worry about where to watch Sheridan’s productions, as both Paramount+ and Peacock, Universal’s streaming platform, arrive on SkyShowtime, there is reason to be in suspense.
Various scenarios can occur, and not even the most reputable members of the industry know what nature of Taylor Sheridan’s current deal with Paramount. The most likely, if we follow the pattern, is that the series and, therefore, the entire franchise Yellowstone Universeremains in the possession of the studiowho will decide what to do with them.

At Paramount they can decide to continue with the different series that are ongoing, of course, but Without Taylor Sheridan, it wouldn’t be the same. Of course the creator of yellow stone could consider collaborating until the end, but the nature exclusive to its deal with NBCUniversal limits it.
Another, less likely, option is that the rights of yellow stone and its series belong to 101 Studios, Bosque Ranch Productions (Sheridan’s production company) or Linson Entertainment. In this case, there could be a change of scenery for the entire block. It is not a very common type of agreement in the sector, which causes many problems in the long term in recovering rights.
No matter what happens, nothing will be the same Yellowstone Universeand it is something that can be extended to the rest of Taylor Sheridan’s productions that could continue in development in 2028, such as Mayor of Kingstown, King of Tulsa or its spin-off, King NOLA, Landman: a raw deal any Lioness.
The option of Sheridan continuing to collaborate in some way with Paramount seems unlikely, as he himself has expressed his poor relationship with the new board of directors even before the merger of Paramount and Skydance was consolidated in August.
The fact that King of Tulsa having received 26 gratuitous layoffs from Paramount with filming for its 4th season underway also shows that things are not looking good.
There is no choice but to continue paying attention to the evolution of each series or news that emerges from this next interval between Taylor Sheridan and Paramount. What do you think will be the fate of Yellowstone Universe?
