The mango industry confirms losses of almost 50 billion euros due to piracy

Do you like reading sleeve? Do the adventures you enjoy in Japanese cartoons offer something you don’t find in other comics? Do you think it is an industry that is in good health?

In recent years we have experienced an exacerbated increase in the popularity of manga and anime. This, for those of us who grew up in the 80s and 90s, is incredible, because three decades ago we did not enjoy the respect we have today.

Not only could they mock you for liking this Eastern content, but several Western associations fought at the time to censor and ban it. Fortunately, they were not successful and today they reign in the world of entertainment.

However, mango is suffering a serious setback in terms of losses in the industry. While we have offers to give and take, with releases everywhere thanks to the titanic efforts of publishers, millions of fans are not responding to companies.

And, as reported by ABJ (Japan Anti-Piracy Association), the manga industry is experiencing losses of more than 47,000 million euros. It’s really outrageous!

And all, as they point out, because of the piracy through scans and fan translations. To give you an idea of the seriousness of the matter, these numbers have multiplied by 8 in the last 4 years, as in 2021 they recorded a total of 6,000 million euros in losses:

How did you get this data? What does the future hold for the manga industry if piracy continues with this negative projection of losses?

Do you buy the manga you like when you can afford it, or do you pirate that valuable read? Are you going to rethink the way you consume manga from now on?
