The office It remains a unique series. Both the original version and the British version created by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchantjust like its American counterpart, which came into the hands of Greg Danielshave been the model for many sitcoms set in workplace settings.
Tomorrow, November 14th, SkyShowtime adds to the family the first official spin-off of the American version of The office, The rolewith Greg Daniels back at the controls, along with Michael Koman. It’s been more than 10 years of rumors about a new series set in the same world as the crazy office. Dunder Mifflinand it’s finally here.
And it seems like Daniels is still tied to the paper world, because we’re going from a paper company to a newspaper trying to survive the digital advance. Of course the world Truth Teller of Toledo He has nothing to envy the team he led michael scott (Steve Carell) in Scranton: madness is served.
But we better get to work. Today at HobbyCine we bring you our review of The rolethe spin-off of The office who seeks to win over fans on SkyShowtime with a new roster of idiots.
Let’s go to Toledo!
The main, but not the only, connection between The role and The office It’s the way it’s filmed. Once again, the series uses the format of fake documentary. But, of course, it had to be funny. It turns out that the same documentary team that filmed for nine years in Dunder Mifflinreturns to the load.
If the longing is intense in you, the series will satisfy you as soon as it starts with countless winks. Yes, you’ll find out what happened to the legendary Scranton office after the emotional ending of The office. In fact, you will know something else because, as you well know, one of your employees has moved.
Oscar Nuñez put yourself back in the accountant’s shoes Oscar Martinezwho no longer works for Dunder Mifflin, but has moved to Ohio to work in the accounting department of the Toledo Truth Teller, a newspaper with a long history that faces a major challenge in surviving the dominance of the digital press.
1st season of The role consists of 10 episodes with a duration each 30 minutes. They are a little longer than those of The officebut the length of the season is noticeably shorter – except for the first, which had only six episodes -.
A new model… crazy to tie
The general premise of The role is that the Toledo Truth Teller receives a new editor-in-chief to try to revive the loss-making newspaper. This man is Ned Sampsonplayed by Bill Weasley, I mean General Hux, I mean Domhnall Gleeson. He’s not Michael Scott, no one can replace Steve Carell’s excellent work, but Gleeson makes your character memorable in its own right.
It’s inevitable that we make comparisons between the TTT team and the Dunder Mifflin team: we spent many years enjoying Dwight, Jim, Pam, Angela and company, each with their own striking stereotype, and now they present us with new characters who, in a way, also respond to these parameters.
They are not copies as blatant as those we could find, for example, in The Office: Australiawho were carbon copies of the characters from the American version. The role it builds interesting characters from the beginning and gives them enough time to develop throughout the season.
So we have Sabrina Impacciadora (The White Lotus) which is possibly the most intense touch of madness the series has. He is the main element of chaos in the Toledo Truth Teller newsroom, but not in the way Michael Scott or Dwigth were, but in such a narcissistic way that he devours the screen every time he appears.
Mare Pritti (Chelsea Frei) also plays an important role throughout the season. It’s a strange combination of Pam Beesley (Jenna Fischer) and Jim Halpert (John Krasinski) at the same time: professional and with a reasonably well-equipped head for the TTT level, but easy to drag into the spiral of madness.
The Toledo Truth Teller editorial team has its own charm, and I must say that, as the press deals closely with this topic, it is easy to connect with some plots on a level that, perhaps, the general public is not so predisposed to. And be careful, what They have very special neighbors on the floor..
The office It’s bigger than Dunder Mifflin
As a final assessment, I liked the 1st season The role: It wasn’t boring for me, even watching it in one sitting, and I was able to connect a lot with most of the characters. Comparisons are hateful and, although inevitable, I believe that We shouldn’t focus so much on standards of The office.
Honestly, besides the obvious connection, I see The role more like Parks and Recreation. For example, the business has much more narrative relevance this in The office. The series not only focuses on the team’s antics, but also addresses the problems faced by a conventional newspaper from the beginning.
I love the introduction, both on a nostalgic level, for what it represents for the written press that has accompanied us throughout our lives, and not only for reading, but also for the music, a complete reminiscence of the opening sequence of The office.
You are up to it The office? No, not at the moment, but is on the right path. It should be remembered that the 1st season of The office It wasn’t the most spectacular of the series, and it even flirted with cancellation. The role There is no such problem, as it has already been renewed for a second season.
For now, enjoy this first installment of The role starting tomorrow, Friday, November 14th, in SkyShowtimewhere you can also find The office. Nobody said that the work environment can’t be fun if we do our part.
Assessment
Observation 82
A very solid presentation season that manages to maintain its charm, despite the inevitable comparisons with the original series.
The best
It has its own atmosphere, without owing anything to The Office. The business gains more importance and starts to have charismatic characters.
Worse
Sometimes she falls into the trap of being too complacent towards her predecessor.
