Ever since Pokémon Red and Blue arrived in Spanish stores, we’ve always dreamed of seeing the imposing prehistoric Pokémon alongside dinosaurs and other extinct species.
All fans know Aerodactyl, Kabuto or CranidosSo Game Freak and Nintendo had a great idea a few years ago to encourage younger people’s interest in real paleontology.
Thus was born exhibition of Pokémon fossils in National Museum of Nature and Science of Japan, whose first edition in 2021 was a total success.
Seeing an Aerodactyl next to pterodactyl skeletons, or Cranidos with a T-Rex skull next to it is something priceless, which will now make the leap to the United States exclusively in a museum in Chicago.
Chicago’s Field Museum announced that will host the popular Pokémon fossil exhibition from May 22, 2026 to April 11, 2027after causing a sensation in several regions of Japan.
And what is most important: this cool exhibition could come to Spain one dayas the world tour will continue in the coming years after passing through Japan and now its debut in the USA.
Pokémon fossils come to life in a real museum
This famous exhibition brings together two of the things we love most: Pokémon and fossils, mixing skeletons of prehistoric Pokémon with real specimens such as the triceratops or the tyrannosaurus.
It’s a dream come true for any fan of the saga, as we can see a life-size Aerodactyl skeleton (or how you think it could be) alongside pterodactylswhich are the dinosaurs that the Pokémon Kanto Fossil is based on.
Other distinguished people were also confirmed, such as Tyrantrum with real tyrannosaur fossils, Bastiodon with ceratopsiansand Omanyte with remains of ammonites.
”Three Field Museum scientists – Arjan Mann, Akiko Shinya and Jingmai O’Connor – participate in the exhibition, highlighting their research, explaining the tools of their trade and sharing their experiences both in the field and at the museum.”.
The exhibition has a bit of everything: from practice areas for the little oneswhere the notions of excavation and paleontology are taught, even detailed explanations of how fossilization occurs.
”In this special exhibit, you’ll delve into the world of Pokémon and natural history with models of fan-favorite Pokémon, real fossil digging and preparation tools, and immersive soundscapes.”.
American Pokémon fans are looking forward to May 2026 to visit the exhibition, while the rest of the fandom dreams of its arrival in other countries around the world. I hope it’s possible in Spain…
