Milei criticizes Mamdani and praises Trump
Milei described her recent electoral victory on October 26 as a “plebiscite for two model countries”.
In his speech this Thursday at the America Business Forum, in Miami, Argentine president, Javier Milei, took the opportunity to harshly criticize the elected mayor of New York, Zohran Mamdani, praise his American counterpart, Donald Trump, and seek investments for his country. Milei described his electoral victory as a mandate for capitalist reform.
The libertarian leader urged Americans to “not be intimidated by some local results,” asserting that Mamdani’s political movement represented a branch of “21st century socialism” that is “worse than wolves.” Therefore, he proposed capitalism as a defense against socialism.
The central theme of Milei’s speech was a defense of free market capitalism and a stern warning against socialist ideas, which he referred to as the “Kuka risk” (a pejorative term for Kirchnerism/Peronism).
He argued that Western societies have wrongly accepted the notion that capitalism is a “necessary evil” that requires state intervention to resolve “unequal impact” and prevent monopolies.
Milei argued that this justification for state intervention leads to ever-increasing government control, eventually achieving the same fate as those who openly hate capitalism: “total control of the state, the economy, and people’s lives; that is, communism.”
In Milei’s opinion, “capitalism is not bad at all”, but the natural right to own the fruits of our labor is what makes us free. He rejected the concept of “Present State” as a phrase used to hide the “road to servitude.”
He also described his recent electoral victory on October 26 as a “plebiscite for two models of country”, which pitted the model of “freedom and capitalism” against that of “serfdom”. He stated that his mandate was “irreversible”, declaring that “Argentina has finally said no to this madness that has cost us so much over time”.
The president also expressed confidence in his ability to promote reforms, highlighting that his political space now has the necessary third of Congress to support decrees and vetoes. Most importantly, he hopes to form majorities with “economically rational deputies” to pass new reforms.
Likewise, he called for the construction of a “great capitalist consensus” in Argentina, aligning all pro-capitalist actors representing at least two-thirds of society. Milei concluded his message by inviting the American business community to invest in Argentina’s future. He specifically thanked Donald Trump for reaching an agreement on the Argentine meat quota, which was “four times greater than the previous one”, thus signaling his desire to strengthen trade ties with the United States. “I want to invite you to be part of the future we are building”, declared Milei, asking investors to “demonstrate the power and moral superiority of capitalism” and participate in the “redemption that the Argentine people need”.
