
The National Police arrested at least one Rayo Vallecano ultra, the so-called Bukaneros who this Wednesday night staged a violent confrontation near the Vallecas stadium with radical fans of Lech Poznan, the Polish team with which Rayo plays this Thursday in a Conference League game.
Police sources informed EFE that around 11:30 pm, outside the Vallecas Stadium, on the streets of Medina de la Albufera and Buenos Aires, dozens of ultras from both teams “gathered” to confront each other with violence. Dozens of National Police agents deployed in the area contained the riots and disbanded the Polish radicals, resulting in the arrest of a Spanish citizen and one injured person.
The match that Rayo Vallecano and Lech Poznan will play in the group stage of the UEFA Conference League starts at 9pm. this Thursday is classified as high risk by the Anti-Violence Commission. The Government Delegation in Madrid organized a security operation made up of more than 400 police and emergency personnel. The expectation is that 745 fans of the Polish team with tickets will attend, out of a total capacity of 14,880 people.
The operation, which will be responsible for monitoring the surroundings of the Vallecano stadium to prevent incidents, will be made up of agents from the National Police – from the Police Intervention Unit, the Special Cavalry Unit, the Provincial Information Brigade and the Mobile Brigade –; the Madrid Municipal Police; components of SAMUR-Civil Protection; from the Fire Department, and security guards and assistants from the football club. The presence of security guards in the Metro service will also be reinforced. To speed up the agents’ work, it is recommended that all stadium goers arrive in advance to go through the established security checks.
