Le Normand, injured in the Champions League against St-Gilloise, will be out for at least a month and a half | Football | Sports

Robin Le Normand, Atlético de Madrid’s Spanish international defender, will be absent for at least a month and a half due to “a high-grade injury to the posterior capsule and semimembranosus muscle” of his left knee, but without ligament or meniscal involvement, suffered this Tuesday in the Champions League game against Union Saint Gilloise. The new assessment of the first diagnosis, initially a “hyperextension” in that joint, and the carrying out of additional tests determined that the central defender suffers “a high-grade injury to the posterior capsule and the semimembranous muscle with ligamentous and meniscal integrity”, according to the medical report published this Wednesday.

Atlético de Madrid does not specify the defender’s recovery period, although this type of injury requires at least six to eight weeks of recovery, if not more, depending on the player’s progress and illness, meaning the player will not be able to be part of the next call-up for the Spanish national team or play for his team until next January.

Within these assumed deadlines, Simeone would miss Le Normand in a total of seven games in the League (against Levante, Getafe, Oviedo, Barcelona, Athletic Club, Valencia and Girona) and two in the Champions League (against Inter and PSV Eindhoven), as long as the setup does not exceed a month and a half or two months. “Robin Le Normand began physiotherapy and rehabilitation treatments today and his progress will mark his return to competition”, informed Atlético de Madrid.

As of today, the central defender is the red and black team’s only casualty for the game against Levante, next Saturday, at the Metropolitano, although Simeone is awaiting a blow from Nico González, who was finally unable to play this Tuesday against Union Saint Gilloise after the trauma against Sevilla. Le Normand played fourteen of Atlético’s fifteen games this season, all as a starter for Diego Simeone’s team, and is the second field player with the most minutes in the red and black team this season, surpassed only by Marcos Llorente.
