The Military Police said in a statement that members of the Military Police from the 41st BPM Division, which serves the area, were conducting “patrol when they received a warning about a child being attacked by a pitbull.” The victim was on Monsignor Felix Street in Iraga.
According to the police, upon arriving at the scene, agents were informed that the child had been rescued and taken to the Francisco da Silva Telles Municipal Hospital in the same neighborhood. The Prime Minister says the incident is ongoing.
The municipal health department said in a statement earlier this afternoon that the boy was taken to hospital in serious condition as a result of the dog attack. Through the file, he reported that “the patient suffered from a large amount of blood loss and was immediately treated by the unit team. About five minutes after his admission to the hospital, while he was still trying to stabilize his condition, he suffered a cardiorespiratory arrest.” The death was later confirmed.
The fire department was called around 8:50 a.m. to an incident classified as “clinical incidents” at 1104 Street. However, when the teams arrived, the patient had already been rescued and removed from the scene.
There is no information about how the dog attacked the child or who the pitbull belonged to.
