The court announced that Pakistani Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi was at the scene of the incident. A suicide attack occurred in Kashahri, killing at least 12 people and wounding 27 others, some of whom are in serious condition, according to a hospital source.
Naqvi told reporters at the scene that the attacker tried to enter the court on foot, but detonated the explosive device outside, near a police car, after waiting between 10 and 15 minutes.
“We are investigating this incident from different points of view. This is not just an attack. It happened in Islamabad,” the minister announced.
The explosion occurred in front of the district courts in Sector G11 of the city during rush hour. The court complex is not adjacent to residential areas, but hundreds of people are usually present during court hours.
In videos and photos broadcast by local media, people can be seen covered in blood next to the police car.
Doubts about the Pakistani Taliban
Security forces, who requested anonymity, told EFE that the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) or TTP group carried out the attack.
Neither this group nor any other group has requested this at the present time.
The explosion occurred a day after a car exploded near the historic Red Fort in New Delhi in the Indian capital, killing eight people and wounding twenty.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised on Tuesday to bring all those responsible for the explosion that occurred in New Delhi to justice.
Pakistan has witnessed an increase in attacks by armed groups since the Taliban movement came to power in Afghanistan in the summer of 2021.
Islamabad accuses Kabul of harboring Pakistani Taliban rebels on its territory to carry out attacks inside Pakistan, which the de facto government in Afghanistan denies.
