A hot air balloon crash causes a fire in a tourist town in SP

Civil defense teams from Campos do Jordão, in the interior of São Paulo, are assessing the damage caused by a balloon landing in a vegetated area on Saturday morning (29/11).

According to local authorities, the fire was controlled and extinguished immediately. There is no information about any injuries.

To date, those responsible for launching the balloon have not been identified or identified.

Balloon launching is considered an environmental crime in Brazil because the practice can cause fires and other life risks.

According to the Environmental Crimes Law (Law No. 9605), it is prohibited to “manufacture, sell, transport or release balloons that may cause fires.” In other words: anyone who releases or sells confetti balloons could be held liable, with up to three years in prison and/or a fine.
