
A 29-year-old man died after being shot by a military police officer last Friday (7/11), in Pavona, the northern region of Rio de Janeiro, after breaching a police blockade. The victim was identified as Andrew Andrade of Amor Divino.

According to information from the military police, the agents were patrolling the area when the riders of three motorcycles passed by and opened fire on the team. Shortly after, the car driven by Andrew drove toward the police blockade without obeying an order to stop, at which point an officer fired a shot, hitting the driver.
After being injured, police officers rescued Andrew himself and took him to the Getulio Vargas Hospital in Benha, but he died of his injuries. The body was sent to the Institute of Forensic Medicine (IML) in central Rio de Janeiro.
Andrew was buried on Sunday (September 11) in the Ricardo de Albuquerque Cemetery north of Rio de Janeiro.

In a note to CapitalsThe Rio de Janeiro Civil Police (PCRJ) said the Metropolitan Police Homicide Center (DHC) was called and is investigating the case.
A memorandum said: “According to preliminary information, the man did not comply with the order to stop and was shot by a military police officer. The team took him to the hospital, but he died. Efforts are currently underway to investigate the facts.”
