João Gonçalves, 55, and his stepson Vitor da Silva, 16, died just one day apart, in the city of Santo Antônio da Platina, in Paraná.
Vitor was hospitalized after suffering from vomiting and sore throat, and doctors determined kidney failure, pneumonia and the need for admission to the intensive care unit. At the hospital, the young man told his mother that he had been using e-cigarettes for two months, and specialists stated that throat irritation was consistent with this use.
