
A man died on Sunday afternoon (30/11) after breaking into a lioness’s enclosure in the Arruda Camara Park, known as Bika, in João Pessoa, Paraíba. The victim, who according to preliminary information suffers from mental disorders, entered the animal’s restricted area irregularly and ended up in a fatal attack.
Pictures circulating on social media record the entire moment of the invasion. In the video, you can see the man climbing the side structure of the cage.

He then uses a tree trunk located inside the fence as support to finally enter the place where the lioness was. Shortly after the invasion, the animal attacked the man. The identity of the victim had not been revealed at the time of publishing the article.

In an official note, the João Pessoa City Council reported that the man “quickly climbed a wall more than 6 meters high, crossed the security bars, used a tree for support, and entered the lioness’s enclosure.” The municipal administration announced that it had already begun investigating the circumstances of the case, expressed its solidarity with the victim’s family, and confirmed that the zoo follows all technical and safety standards.
The Military Police and the Paraiba Scientific Police Institute (IPC) were called in to take appropriate action. The zoo was closed immediately after the attack, and visits were suspended. There are still no expectations for reopening.
At the time of the invasion, the park was open to the public and receiving visitors, which sparked a state of panic among the people who witnessed the scene. Security and rescue teams moved quickly, but the man did not survive the injuries caused by the lioness’s attack.
