The digital platform is collecting contributions from patients and their families to create the neurodiversity legal framework in Congress
Federal MP Fernando Marangoni (Brazil-SP Union) implemented this week “Participatory Reports”supplier connected It aims to receive input on the rights and treatment of individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). The information provided by patients, their parents, specialists and entities related to the subject will be used as input in the preparation of the Neurodiversity Law, which in Brasilia is also referred to as the Autism Law. A special committee was recently established in the House of Representatives with the goal of developing a unified national policy for people with autism spectrum disorder and other disabilities.
Suggestions and cooperation on the future legal framework for autism in Brazil can be sent through the portal www.estatutodoautista.com.br. In addition to ideas and suggestions, the channel makes it possible to report on the difficulties, experiences and situations faced daily by people with autism spectrum disorder, atypical parents and professionals working in the social, educational and health fields. This mechanism seeks to increase civic participation in the initial phase of project construction.
The Special Committee on the Status of People with Autism, which was installed on the 28th and on which Marangoni serves as rapporteur, has consolidated meetings and plans to hold public hearings. The goal is to listen to experts, especially from the fields of medicine and psychology, and to invite public and private figures to discuss. The Brazilian Federation parliamentarian indicated that the goal is to democratize the discussion of the issue and improve what is already in place in the country.
The MP stressed that the discussion on the TEA and its potential progress cannot be limited to the national conference environment. The need to listen to those with autism and other conditions on a daily basis was emphasized. The Suggestions channel allows for quick sharing of situations, incidents or items that are detrimental to the quality of life of people with autism. The plan is to analyze each proposal to create a final text for an autism law that addresses the needs of Brazilian families.
The Special Committee on Autism Statute is composed of 19 Federal Representatives and is responsible for consolidating and discussing more than 70 legislative proposals related to the topic currently being addressed. The goal is to consolidate all of these things into one document. The unique proposal aims to guarantee comprehensive rights for people with autism, such as early diagnosis, access to multidisciplinary care and free and adapted public policies.
Marangoni stressed that the unification of all matters filed in the Chamber of Deputies would inaugurate a new regulatory framework for the neurological condition that, according to the 2022 demographic census of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics (IBGE), affects about 2.4 million Brazilians.
