British rapper EsDeeKid, from Liverpool, has become an unexpected phenomenon on streaming platforms in recent weeks. The artist, who hides his face under a mask and keeps his identity secret, has seen a spike in auditions after a TikTok video sparked the theory that he is actually American actor Timothée Chalamet.
These speculations received great attention on the networks and aroused the curiosity of thousands of users who rushed to see his works.

Between November 7 and 13 – the period when the theory began to spread – EsDeeKid’s songs totaled more than 5.8 million official streams. The following week, from November 14 to 20, the number jumped by 54%, exceeding 9 million copies.
In the next three weeks, the rapper’s catalog recorded more than 145% growth in listening. The buildup was so great that her debut album, Rebel, released in June, entered the Billboard 200 for the first time, peaking at No. 131 on the Nov. 29 chart.

Highlights include 4 Raws and Phantom, two of the most popular songs on the album. From November 14-20, 4 Raws had more than 3 million streams in the US – a 56% increase in that period – while Phantom reached 2.98 million, an increase of 53%. At the end of November, EsDeeKid released Century, which had 1.68 million plays in the same week.

But after all, what “proof” led fans to believe that Timothée Chalamet would be EsDeeKid? Not much – and nothing really consistent. The two were reportedly seen at the same scarf shop. Chalamet also appeared at a Fakemink concert in London in lieu of a reunion with famous friends. EsDeeKid’s strong British accent, according to netizens, could be an elaborate imitation. It is worth remembering: the actor is a fan of hip-hop music.

The most likely justification, and also the most fun, came from attentive fans: “Timothée” has two “e”s in a row — just like “EsDeeKid.” At the moment, nothing has been confirmed or denied: both Chalamet and the rapper chose not to comment on the theory when contacted by the press.
