At least two people were killed and 18 others were injured after a truck invaded an open market in Bucheon, about 20 kilometers from Seoul, South Korea, on Thursday (13). According to local authorities, the car traveled at high speed for about 150 meters on a road full of tents before it stopped.

According to the fire department, the truck reversed approximately 28 meters before accelerating toward the crowd. Security camera images, shown by public broadcaster KBS, show the moment the blue car collided with the stalls and pedestrians shopping there. Yonhap News Agency confirmed the death of two people who suffered cardiac arrest at the scene.
The driver claims sudden acceleration
Yonhap reported that the driver, a man in his 60s, was arrested and taken in for questioning. According to police, he stated that the accident occurred due to “sudden acceleration” and denied consuming alcohol. Tests conducted after the accident confirmed that he was not drunk. Authorities plan to examine the truck to determine if there is a mechanical failure.
Meanwhile, Europe also recorded a similar incident: in France, at least ten people were injured when a man ran his car over pedestrians on a tourist island on the west coast. The suspect, Jean Guillot, 35, was arrested on charges of attempted murder following the attack in the city of Oléron.
According to investigative sources, Guillot shouted “Allahu Akbar” during the operation, which initially raised suspicions of terrorism. However, French authorities say there is no evidence of links to extremist groups. The case is still under investigation.
