Sakurajima volcano is located on the island of Kyushu, Japan, and it erupted on Sunday (11/16). According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, ash and smoke were thrown more than 4.4 kilometers into the air.
The fall of volcanic material began around 1 a.m. (local time) and continued until approximately 9 a.m. The ashes reached the neighboring city of Miyazaki.
According to Kagoshima Prefecture, where the volcano is located, there is no record of serious damage so far. There are restrictions on entry to the mountain.
But the phenomenon caused the cancellation of at least 30 flights at Kagoshima Airport, according to local media.
Local authorities and agencies recommend that residents and visitors take preventive measures, such as using umbrellas and masks. Furthermore, caution is advised when driving vehicles.
