The Palmeiras coach believes that he lacks courage and boldness
It did not work out for Palmeiras in the Libertadores final. Alverde fought until the end, but was unable to avoid losing to Flamengo 1-0, Saturday (29), in Lima, Peru. In this way, they missed the chance to become the first Brazilian team to win the tournament four times. Coach Abel Ferreira evaluated the match and realized that Rubro Negro deserved to win.
Abel Ferreira said: “Although we have a young team, we lacked more courage and boldness. The way the opponent played is not surprising. They had five (in attack) and we had four (in defence). But as I said, I think it is more than making excuses, it means that our opponent was better. More experienced, more solid and knows how to deal with this moment of pressure.”
In a very truncated match, Palmeiras did not start well and was subjected to pressure at the beginning of the match. Despite the great size that Flamengo presented in the match, Alverde did not waste any clear opportunities. However, after a slip, he conceded a goal from a fixed ball in the 22nd minute of the final stage, which was costly.
He added, “Although the match was decided with one detail, in the end we got a clear and wonderful opportunity from Roque. There was a very questionable move at the beginning of the match (the possibility of Pulgar being sent off). But in any case, we continued. Flamengo was better and that’s about it.”
In need of recovery, Palmeiras will return to the field next Wednesday (3), at 9:30 pm (Brasilia time), against Atletico, in Belo Horizonte, in the 37th round of the Brazilian League. He may have another vice president this year.
