Bus services in much of the Barcelona metropolitan area will be changed again in the coming weeks. Employees of Marfina Bus, a Moventis group company that operates lines in L’Hospitalet, El Prat and other municipalities in Baix Llobregat, called for… … A new round of strikes every day November 15 and 22 and December 5, 24 and 31. During those days, buses will operate with a minimum capacity of 33%.
Behind this new strike calendar there is a labor struggle that has been going on for a year and a half. The CCOO and UGT condemn that since Marvina took over, workforce conditions have worsened significantly: working days exceeding nine and a half hours, “immovable” travel times, disciplinary measures and a constant stream of dismissals and penalties which, according to the unions, have sparked internal tension.
This call comes at a very sensitive time for the company. A social court in Barcelona has just ruled in favor of three drivers and two CCOO delegates, concluding that Marfina violated their right to strike. The ruling adds to the failed mediation attempt and increases pressure on the administration, which is already dealing with several open fronts.
One such front is the lawsuit brought by the CCOO in January 2025 against the unilateral changes in working conditions introduced by the company through Article 41 of the Workers’ Statute. The union wonders about the amendments that affect basic aspects such as the distribution of vacations.
AMB fines Marvina
The conflict also moved to the institutional level. The Barcelona Metropolitan Area imposed three serious penalties on Marvina for her repeated non-compliance with the schedules of the two lines. Total fines amount to 85,000 euros The third highest reaches 325 thousand euros. According to the AMB, this is “systematic non-compliance” with the granted service.
In addition, the CGT complaint accuses the company of firing a union representative and causing hundreds of casualties due to labor concerns. The union asserts that the change in judicial separation has led to a deterioration in workers’ working conditions as well as the quality of service that users receive.
Lines affected by the strike
Marfina Bus, integrated into Moventis, has been operating these public lines since 2024, after winning a tender worth 145.3 million euros. As the company explained in its official channels, the lines affected by the stops will be L16, L20, L21, LH1, LH2, M12, M14, PR1, PR2, PR5, and X30.
The affected municipalities include Barcelona, Hospitalet, El Prat, Cornella, Esplojos, Sant Feliu and Sant Just. During the strike days, all daytime services in Barcelonès and Baix Llobregat will operate with a minimum service capacity of 33% throughout the day.
