Allies of the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces reported that the Sudanese army killed 45 civilians in an air strike in the Kordofan region in the south of the country.
This accusation was made by the faction of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement led by Abdel Aziz Al-Hilu, who spoke of a “massacre against students in the Komo region of the Nuba Mountains,” which also left eight seriously injured, including women and children.
Komo is located about 10 kilometers east of Kauda, the headquarters of the movement, and while the Sudanese Armed Forces have not yet commented, media linked to the army, reported by the Sudan Tribune, were limited to confirming the army’s bombing in the vicinity.
The Kordofan region has gradually become the new epicenter of the devastating armed conflict that began in April 2023 between the army and the Rapid Support Forces, the latter of which recently emerged victorious in the strategic western region of Darfur after recently seizing the historic capital El Fasher.
International organizations have accused the Rapid Support Forces, the Sudanese army, and their allies of committing numerous atrocities since the outbreak of the conflict.
