“One person was found dead,” a detailed report by the official agency posted on social media said. A minor and a woman were taken to a local hospital with injuries, while a man was admitted in serious condition.
The report added that the fire broke out in an “illegal fireworks warehouse” in a residential area, explaining that four houses caught fire.
Local media published pictures showing the damaged homes, some of which were almost completely destroyed by fire.
The accident caused the mobilization of many emergency services in Pesqueria, a municipality located in the Monterrey metropolitan area, the capital of Nuevo León. Activity at gunpowder and fireworks factories, both legal and underground, increases dramatically during the holiday season.
