Even after undergoing the procedure, Anna told her fans that the effect did not last over the years. According to experts, the situation is not uncommon.

Plastic surgeon Carlos Tagliari explains that recurrence — when the ears protrude again — can be caused by a combination of anatomical, scarring and behavioral factors in the postoperative period.

“Otoplasty reshapes the cartilage to reposition the ear, but every organism reacts differently. In some cases, the cartilage has a very strong ‘memory’ and tries to return to its original shape,” says the doctor.

According to Dr. Carlos, the technique used, the quality of the cartilage and the degree of its prominence directly affect the long-term result.

“When the cartilage is too stiff or the separation has to be larger, the risk of opening increases. Furthermore, if the patient does not follow the postoperative period properly, such as avoiding sleeping on the ear for the first few weeks, the structure may lose support.”

The specialist confirms that choosing the appropriate technique for the shape of the ear is crucial to reducing the chance of the bump returning.

He adds: “Today we are looking for methods that combine internal sutures and scraping of the small cartilage, so that it accepts the new design better. Combining these methods greatly reduces the chances of recurrence of the disease.”

Despite the progress, Dr. Carlos remembers that no procedure offers absolute guarantees. “Even with the correct technique, there are patients whose body reacts in an unexpected way,” he points out. “Otoplasty usually has a high satisfaction rate, but in reality it can be repeated over the years.”

For those who have already undergone surgery and notice that their ears have protruded again, the doctor advises that a new evaluation is necessary.
