The AP-7 motorway has now reopened to traffic near Lamitla de Mar (Tarragona) after being closed for more than 33 hours this weekend due to a tanker truck overturning on Saturday around 2:00pm, causing delays of up to 10km.
As the Catalan Traffic Service (SCT) reported to EFE, yesterday, Sunday, at 11:13 p.m., northbound traffic was restored after work was completed to remove the truck and clean the road.
The truck, which was transporting mineral oil, overturned after colliding with a car on the AP-7 highway and was left crossed in the median, occupying the northbound lane. The accident forced the mobilization of several carriers to transport goods.
Vehicles traveling on the highway were diverted to the N-340 route, and to avoid traffic jams, traffic recommended drivers an alternative route along the regional roads C-12 and C-44. The closure of the motorway caused queues of up to ten kilometers on the northbound AP-7 road, coinciding with many vehicles returning to Barcelona and its urban area for the repatriation process over the weekend.
To these delays, also in the north direction, six-kilometre-long queues were added due to an accident that occurred in the afternoon on AP-7 near Subirats (Barcelona).
