During his detention hearing, on Wednesday (26), former President Jair Bolsonaro (PL) said via video that he suffers from reflux and sleep apnea and needs specialized nutrition.
He also stated that he uses five medications, in a statement to the associate judge in the office of STF Minister (Supreme Federal Court) Alexandre de Moraes, Flavia Martinez de Carvalho.
Bolsonaro added that he had never responded to criminal proceedings and did not point out any violations or violations on the part of the police authorities responsible for implementing the arrest warrant.
After the statement, the Public Prosecutor’s Office expressed its opinion that the detention of the former president was regular, and the judge agreed to implement the arrest order. His lawyers did not ask any questions, according to the minutes of the session.
Bolsonaro has been serving a prison sentence for being convicted of a coup plot at the Federal Police Supervision Authority in Brasilia, since Saturday (22).
Moraes decided on Tuesday (25) to keep Bolsonaro at the regional headquarters of the National Front and officially sentenced the former president to 27 years and 3 months in prison.
Bolsonaro will be imprisoned in the police prison in the so-called general staff room, a space where he does not interact with other prisoners and where there is more comfort than in prison. The current building is a 12 square meter room, with TV, air conditioning, private bathroom and desk.
Moraes also decided that the former president must receive full-time medical care, while on duty, and that the medical team must be guaranteed access to Bolsonaro regardless of judicial authorization.
