Flamengo’s sporting director and the club’s football strongman, José Boto, does not guarantee, at the moment, that Filipe Luis will remain at Mas Querido. After winning the Copa Libertadores, the coach is sure to receive interest and harassment from markets in other countries. The red and black captain is only under contract with Mengo until next month.
The Portuguese coach said, in an interview with “ESPEN”, after Flamengo’s 1-0 victory over Palmeiras, in the decision of the Libertadores edition, Saturday (29), in Lima, Peru: “It is not possible to confirm (Filipe Luis’s stay). We have not spoken yet. We will do that as of Wednesday. It may also be during the World Cup (in Qatar, in December).”
Until this season, Felipe rejected an offer from Turkey’s Fenerbahce. The idea of the red-black club is to have a contract until the end of 2027. But the coach did not mention anything about the renewal during his press conference, at the Monumental de Lima, after the match against Palmeiras.
In addition to the renewal with the coach, Botto also commented on the recent achievement of Flamengo, the first and only Brazilian to become four-time Libertadores champions.
The Portuguese leader added: “The emotion is great, even though it doesn’t look like it. It is the culmination of hard work, well done and demonstrated in victories.”
