The Ministry of Defense awarded Brice Cedera, editor-in-chief of the newspaper EL ESPAÑOL, andDefense of Journalism Award 2025 In the print and digital journalism category for its series of reports on the NATO-led mission in Slovakia.
The jury, which unanimously adopted the decision, recognized the distinctiveness of Sedera’s work entitled “Three days in the kitchen of the Spanish NATO mission in Slovakia: “If you light a cigarette 5 kilometers away, we have you.”

In this context, Cedera’s reports are distinguished by their “importance”, “exceptional quality” and their ability to provide a “realistic” view of the tasks carried out today by the Spanish Armed Forces, as the Minister explained in the message in which she presented the award.
Robles also expressed his “appreciation and admiration” for the journalist whose work is an example of the strict dissemination of “Spain’s role as a strong ally committed to collective defense,” stressing Sedera’s contribution to the public’s understanding of the work of soldiers deployed abroad.
This award, one of the most relevant in the defense information field, is given annually to highlight the work of professionals who bring the reality of national security closer to citizens and those serving on international missions.
Bryce Sidera has been a journalist at EL ESPAÑOL since July 2016 and specializes in internal affairs, defence, investigations and events.
In 2020 he received the National Police Corps Journalism Award. He is also the recipient of the 2019 Boehringer Ingelheim Prize for Journalism in Medicine, in the Young Talent category.
