Britta Gil, who passed away in July this year, was honored at the fifth edition of the Potensias Award 2025. Speaking to the press, the singer’s last friend, Danerly Orrico, known as O Kannalha, celebrated the honor and recalled Britta’s memory.
“I feel so proud,” Canalha said. “I remember the words Britta said the day she was here. She postponed chemotherapy so she could stay here, because being here healed her. I really feel this energy here. We are here celebrating together, where she said: ‘We deserve our place.’ Black skin is power.”
According to him, the singer helped him learn about himself and occupy spaces more safely. “Sometimes, I didn’t see myself in places like this, but she said to me, ‘You’re amazing,'” he said. “She always wanted to raise my self-esteem. She will definitely be remembered here, not just by me, but by everyone. We must never forget this name that is so important to our black people.”
