On Tuesday (11/18), the civil and military police launched another phase of the containment operation, which is considered the main offensive against the territorial expansion of the Red Command in Rio de Janeiro. The action focuses on dismantling the financial and logistical structure of the faction, affecting in particular the recycling businessman known as Cosme Rogerio Ferreira Dias. Known as the “Barricade Mentor”, he is responsible for financing and supplying materials used to build illegal barricades in CV-dominated communities.
Agents from the Robbery and Theft Police Station (DRF), Special Resource Coordination (Basic), POB and units from the General Directorate of Specialized Police (DGPE) are participating in the operation. As of the publication of this article, 15 people had been arrested and under investigation.
DRF agents went out to execute a total of 41 arrest warrants and 94 search and seizure warrants. The court also ordered the freezing of assets and values worth R$217 million. Eight scrap yards were closed. Investigations are underway in Rio, São Paulo and Minas Gerais.

Main objectives of the operation:
- Executing arrest, search and seizure orders.
- Seizure of assets and values worth R$217 million linked to the crime.
- Eight junkyards used to receive and launder money were seized.
- Investigations were conducted in Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo and Minas Gerais.
How the scheme worked
According to investigations, a large portion of the resources used to build and maintain the barricades came from receiving and selling stolen copper and other metals. These materials were sent to junkyards associated with drug trafficking, which served as money laundering and operational support centers for the faction.
According to the police, these institutions funded:
- Building and rebuilding barricades;
- Maintain armed surveillance
- Operating points of sale of medicines.
Civil Police Secretary, Delegate Felipe Currie, stated that this phase of the operation represents “a direct blow to the structural and economic backbone of the Comando Vermelho, with the aim of financially strangling the faction and restricting its capacity for regional dominance.”
The financial analysis conducted by the Disaster Management Unit revealed illicit movements worth more than R$217 million, an amount considered inconsistent with the activity declared by the persons investigated. Given the evidence, the court authorized the following:
- Complete freezing of financial assets;
- hijacking of luxury properties in Recreo dos Bandeirantes;
- Hijacking luxury vehicles;
- Preventing eight scrap yards used as disposal centers for stolen copper;
- Compulsory removal of partners and legal guardians.
