Ceron says total debt should reach about 79% of Brazil’s GDP at the end of the year

National Treasury Secretary Rogerio Ceron said on Wednesday (26) that the economic team’s forecast is that gross general government debt (DBGG) will reach 79% of GDP at the end of the year, which is slightly lower than what the market expected. This statement came during a press conference to comment on the central government’s results in October.

He also stated that he does not intend to leave his government position. According to Ceron, his commitment to stay until the end of the term still stands.

“My commitment still stands. Therefore, we will evaluate what will happen in the coming months, but in principle, I will continue. My commitment to stay until the end of the term still stands.”

Furthermore, the minister stated that the government surplus (when funds are freed up for spending, but the ministry does not implement them) should reach around R$10 billion or a little more at the end of this year.

Ceron was also asked about the situation at Eletronuclear, which is responsible for the Angra plants. “It is not on our radar to immediately get involved in cyber-nuclear.” He also ruled out that there is currently no plan to invest in the company due to the work in the Angra 3 factory.
