In the presence of the police, there was a meeting between parents and principals on that day
Once again, the violence dealt a fatal blow to coexistence in the city’s schools. This time it was in Elementary No. 80, located at 7 bis between 474 and 475 in the Savoia neighborhood in City Belle. As if it were another piece of information about a problem that seemed to have no end, its heroes were the sixth-grade boys – who were no more than 11 years old – and their parents, who came to school faced with a conflict between two boys and a girl.
This was approximately two weeks after the Normal 2 incident, in which a student attacked another student and a teacher was injured during the fight, so the prefecture intervened and expelled the assailant. Given the level of violence, students and teachers organized a sit-in to demand security.
This time, a fight again broke out between the boys inside the school building and left teachers and parents injured.
The incident occurred on Tuesday. According to what a member of the educational community told EL DIA, during the second morning break, two male and female students quarreled with each other. One of them told the newspaper that the assistants and teachers tried to separate them, but “it was impossible to separate them due to the level of violence they were subjected to. The assistants and teachers tried to calm them down, but they ended up hitting each other.”
Here is the striking thing: the institution’s authorities invited parents to accompany the children. However, as a source from the educational community described it, the students – who were still angry – and their parents “attacked the authorities and rebuked the principal,” adding: “They attacked them with punches and kicks, and even grabbed them by the hair. They kicked the principal in the leg and made her bleed. They injured varicose veins.”
After what happened, the council had to receive medical assistance in the health ward. In addition, three teachers received ART coverage.
And the seasons? Yesterday they were suspended and a return was announced for today. But yesterday, in the presence of the police car, a meeting was held between principals and parents to provide clarifications about the suspension of classes.
According to the source from the educational community, “two weeks ago a similar incident occurred among students,” and “despite what happened, the inspector wants teachers to do the same.” Finally, he concluded: “For some time now, some parents have been taking their children out of here because of the violence.”
Transgression
Unlike recent cases of violence within La Plata schools — which included high school students, teachers, and families — the incident at City Bell involved children.
The data is not surprising among school activity professionals. “Children from a very early age face surplus situations. Teachers do a lot to contain them,” Maria Zissman, graduate in educational psychology, explained to EL DIA. However, he later analyzed that “schools don’t know how to prevent this from happening.”
“A similar idea is missing. The other can be hit and hit. There is no idea about the rights of others and what treatment they deserve.
Logan Rowley is a graduate student in psychological education and a member of the guidance team at the city school
In this sense, Ernesto Radice, doctor of social psychology, sociologist and member of the Association of Sociologists of the Argentine Republic, told this newspaper: “Violence has always been there, and it happens today that those channels through which people can evacuate are closed” and explained in detail: “Evacuation means treatment. It is treated through mental health, health treatment, exercise, and access to cultural mediations. All activities that comfort humans, promote the alleviation of violence.”
He added: “There is an absence of a state that does not provide alternatives. The network that protects society becomes increasingly porous, and the gap is increasingly widening.”
In agreement, Logan Rowley, an educational psychology graduate and member of the local school guidance team, said: “On the one hand, there is violence, and on the other hand, there is a lack of resources and institutional tools.”
Moreover, “the issue of power and asymmetry between adults and children and what hierarchical position means, is broken down.”
