On Tuesday morning, the Civil Police launched an operation to execute search and arrest warrants against employees of a gas agency and businessmen in the fuel sector suspected of involvement in the theft of industrial meters. This action is being led by the Department of Defense Delegated Services (DDSD) and is the result of an investigation that indicates the formation of a criminal network focused on gas mileage fraud at gas stations.
According to the corporation, the investigation includes the theft of three large meters from inside the concessionaire’s manufacturing unit. CCTV images show a technician from an outside company removing a piece of equipment from a restricted area, using an irregularly opened side door.
Later, the same employee had returned to the site using a vehicle owned by a former dealership technician – now a partner in companies in the vehicle fuel and gas sector – raising suspicions about a scheme that may involve employees and businessmen.
Investigations indicate that those involved were part of a business group specialized in developing methods for manipulating industrial meters, with the aim of circumventing the new security systems implemented by the concessionaire, and facilitating fraud in public consumption institutions, especially gas stations.
Two of the three stolen meters were linked to stations that had already been investigated on charges of tampering with consumption, which, according to the police, reinforces the hypothesis of concealment of evidence and an attempt to interfere in the process of recovering amounts owed to the company.
According to Bom Día Rio, agents are spread throughout the city and have already managed to seize electronic equipment and documents that will be attached in a further phase of the investigation.
