The Civil Police of Osorio, in partnership with the Special Department for Animal Protection (DEPA) and the municipal kennel, carried out on Thursday (13) a series of inspections aimed at combating the mistreatment of pets. These measures took place in different areas of the city and were of a preventive and repressive nature.
According to Delegate João Henrique Gomez de Almeida, in charge of the Osorio Police Station, the establishment of an animal-friendly registration office has made it possible to increase the number of investigations and inspections. According to him, these visits aim to reduce abusive practices and ensure appropriate conditions for animals in the municipality. During the operation, the teams received technical support from a DEPA/Canil veterinarian.
During one of the inspections, the agents were able to locate two dogs in a weak state, which ended up being collected for treatment in the animal protection sector in the municipality. According to current legislation, if intentional behavior on the part of the trustee is proven, the responsible person may be charged with committing an environmental crime, as stipulated in Law 9605/98.
The Civil Police stated that new operations will be carried out continuously. The community can cooperate by reporting via WhatsApp (51) 99912-0456.
