Bethlehem Developments in the environmental agenda declined during the second day of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). California Governor Gavin Newsom’s presence and an Indigenous demonstration that resulted in two security guards being injured stole the show this Tuesday (11/11).
Newsom is expected to run for president, and he has harshly criticized President Donald Trump, who is considered the nation’s most hated president by environmentalists. The Democratic governor strongly criticized the Republican, pointing out that his opponent took a wrong position by not participating in the Conference of the Parties and not sending representatives.
But the Democrat raised many other political issues at the COP 30 during his visit. He said that Trump “does not believe in a system of checks and balances” and that he fears “losing our republic.” Furthermore, he criticized the North American incursion into Venezuela. He commented: “The United States is blowing up boats without transparency, and without Congress’ approval, which even Republicans have criticized. If you can’t criticize that, what will you criticize?”

The arrival caused confusion early in the evening, resulting in at least one security guard being injured. The fighting prompted UN security to evacuate the wings.
The group was part of the Global Health and Climate March, which it says brought together about 3,000 people. The entity says that it implemented “previously signed agreements with the COP30 organization,” and that the indigenous people left the demonstration and left independently toward the Blue Zone. In the recordings, shouts were heard against oil exploration in Foz do Amazonas.
