“They destroyed the Amazon rainforest in Brazil to build a four-lane highway for environmentalists. It’s become a huge scandal,” Trump said.
Trump’s comment came in response to a video broadcast by the American Fox News station, which is in Belem, covering the United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30). On the record, journalists criticize Brazil and claim that the environment minister, Marina Silva, “bragged about cutting down thousands of trees to build this four-lane road for the COP30 to show how the government takes care of the forest.”
Lula and Trump
President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (PT), said last Tuesday (11/4), that he will contact US President Donald Trump again if a meeting between the teams of the two countries is not scheduled by the end of the 30th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP30).
“When the thirtieth session of the Conference of the Parties ends, if a date has not yet been set for the meeting between my negotiators and his negotiators, I will contact Trump again,” Lula stressed.
The Labor member added: “I left the meeting with President Trump convinced that we would reach an agreement. (…) I told him that it was very important that our negotiators start talks soon.”
Lula and Trump met in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, on October 26. The meeting lasted 50 minutes and represented the rapprochement between the two countries after the diplomatic crisis and customs duties imposed on Brazil. After the conversation, the heads of state ordered the Brazilian and American teams to begin negotiations on sanctions.
