The government of Javier Miley is sharpening the saw again and moving forward with new cuts in public jobs, after the reorganization of the liberal administration carried out with the promotion of Manuel Adorni to the position of chief of staff after the electoral victory of October 26 and the departure of Guillermo Francos.
This is the task that the Minister of State Liberation and Transformation, Federico Sturzenegger, has been working on together with the Coordinating Minister. It is known that after the expiration of the powers granted under the Code of Rules in the middle of this year, the portfolio led by Storzenegger had different goals. But one of them is negotiating the details of the trade agreement with the United States, the details of which are not yet known.
So far in the liberal administration, since December 10, 2023, more than 58 thousand layoffs have been recorded in the public sector. A lot of them were just about terminating contracts. According to official sources, estimates indicate that the new reduction may mean a new 10% reduction in the structure of public employees. According to official sources, it is a “comprehensive” cut that they will try to advance.
Authoritarians don’t like this
The practice of professional and critical journalism is an essential pillar of democracy. This is why it bothers those who believe they are the bearers of the truth.
Official sources revealed that they will develop decentralized organizations such as AFIP, Anmat, Conicet, INTA, INTI, Enacom and many others. Many of these organizations have already suffered cuts. Even the government was forced (through judicial decisions) to reverse its decision to close INTA and INTI. He was also forced to back down from the national roads project.
In the case of Annamat, new research on organizational downsizing remains striking. Especially in light of the devastation and deaths resulting from the lack of control over batches contaminated with fentanyl, which are subject to a judicial investigation. They even caused a bit of annoyance between Sturzenegger and Health Minister Mario Lugones.
In October of this year, the number of public employees in the country reached 282,000. Regarding this number, the Miley administration is aiming to advance the remainder of 2026 and into the first quarter of next year, when many government contracts expire, so employees will not have any meaning.
Public television and national radio are also in the crosshairs. They both report to Falak Adorni, whose secretariat was dissolved and whose duties were transferred to the Chief of Staff. According to information provided by the Congressional Budget Office (OPC), Radio Television Argentina (RTA) has 2,157 employees and received 52.01% fewer remittances than in 2024.
In this context, public media workers suffered a sharp decline in their salaries, and there were many voluntary retirements. However, the government could not close Tailam, but rather changed it.
Part of the transformations that Adorny and Sturzenegger confront relate to the privatization of public companies, the elimination of duplicate offices or dependencies, as well as the suppression of car ownership records.
