The longevity of Os Paralamas do Sucesso lies not only in the timeless hit songs, but in the undeniable chemistry between its members. At Estilo Brasil on November 21, the band detailed the creation process as something very organic and sensual.

In an exclusive interview with capitals, Drummer João Baron describes the dynamic with bassist P Ribeiro: he considers him an “intuitive musician” who, like Baron on drums, has never studied music in a “very catholic” way. Their relationship with their instruments is built in an “emotional” way.
The drummer, who misses studying music in a more realistic way, soon sees that this deficiency does not affect him today, as he compensates for technique “with other things, more in the blood, in the fist.” For him, technique and theory do not guarantee the artist’s full contribution to the musical structure, because music is a broad sum and art form.
This intuitive approach explains why P. Ribeiro is considered one of the people most responsible for defining the bass groove in country rock, blending the weight of rock with the rhythm of reggae, ska, and Caribbean and African references. Baron and Bee form a cohesive “kitchen” and are often praised for their particular style.

Herbert Viana in turn developed his “amazing talent as a composer” organically over time. The trio’s basic rule, according to Baron, is to respect “the circle of inspiration and the desire to do something new.”
This cycle led the band to explore different styles — from new wave to dub, from Afrobeat to Juju music — and continue the burning desire to produce, even four decades later. They strive to keep their “antennas open” to transform feelings into music.
For Barron, the trio has moved beyond seeking commercial superiority or worrying excessively about streaming statistics. He concludes that true fulfillment is when audiences connect with music made with passion, in the blood and on the road.
