€32 million was stolen in a cyberattack on South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency platform

SEOUL, Nov. 27 (EFE).- South Korean cryptocurrency platform Upbit, the largest in the Asian country, was hit by a massive cyberattack on Thursday, with 54 billion won (about 32 million euros/37 million dollars) stolen, its operator said.

“We have confirmed that some Solana Network assets, worth about 54 billion won, were transferred to an unauthorized external wallet address at 4:42 local time (19:42 GMT on Wednesday),” Donamo said in a statement.

He explained that upon discovering the breach, the platform immediately suspended digital asset deposit and withdrawal services, and conducted a comprehensive scan, “prioritizing the protection of our members’ assets.”

“We immediately identified the extent of the digital asset outflow resulting from unusual withdrawals and will cover the entire amount with Upbit assets to ensure that our members’ assets are not damaged,” the operator added.

Dunamu apologized for the inconvenience caused to its users and said they had implemented a series of measures.

This included transferring all assets to the cold wallet to prevent abnormal transfers in the future, attempting to freeze the chain, necessary preparations to cooperate with relevant investigative authorities, and fully verifying the security of deposits and withdrawals.

The text adds: “We are conducting a comprehensive review of the stability and security of the entire digital asset deposit and withdrawal system, not just the Solana network. Deposit and withdrawal services will resume sequentially once security is guaranteed.”

The Upbit operator said the platform prioritizes its assets and “will do everything in its power to provide a more secure service based on an enhanced security system.” Evie
