Federal Rep. Eduardo Bolsonaro (PL) attacked President Lula and Minister Alexandre de Moraes (STF) during a speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), held this weekend at the Mar-a-Lago resort, owned by Donald Trump, in Florida.
He accused Eduardo Lula and the presidents of Colombia and Venezuela, Gustavo Petro and Nicolas Maduro, respectively, of staying in power with resources from drug cartels. He added: “When Lula met with President Trump in Malaysia a few weeks ago, he was pressured by Petro and Maduro to defend Venezuela. They are part of the same group, the São Paulo Forum, and they are all allies and remain in power with money from the cartels.”
Eduardo Bolsonaro then quoted Moraes: “In Brazil, they are more professional than their counterparts in Mexico, but it’s the same: they kill, they launder money, they delve into politics and even into the Supreme Court. Because Alexandre de Moraes went to Rio de Janeiro… Imagine an STF judge going to Rio to prevent the governor from sending police to the favelas.”
Before mentioning Lula and Moraes, Eduardo mentioned that the power of cartels in Latin America is reflected in Brazilian politics and institutions. He also praised the Trump administration for expressing support for Brazilian security forces after the massive operation in Rio that left more than a hundred suspects and four agents dead.

The parliamentarian also stated that there are links between Latin American governments and drug trafficking. “One of the seized weapons had the official emblem of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela on it. This shows that the relationship between cartels is also the same as the relationship between presidents.”
These statements come amid recent military operations authorized by the Trump administration to intercept suspected drug smuggling ships in the Caribbean and Pacific, under the pretext of combating international drug trafficking.

“Coup in the 2022 elections”
After the event, Eduardo posted criticism of Morris and the 2022 elections on his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“It was strange to see the confusion of former Attorney General, Senator and Governor John Ashcroft, after I exposed Moraes and the use of USAID funds to set up audit agencies in Brazil and the coup in the 2022 elections,” he wrote.
