One of the crimes that defined Brazil during the first decade of the 21st century returned to the memory of Internet users on Wednesday (11/12) after the release of the documentary Caso Eloá: Refém ao Vivo, which explores the details of the kidnapping of Eloá Pimentel in 2008.
The Netflix production included unpublished testimonies from the parents, brothers and friends of the victim who was shot. However, one of the most important characters in the case, Nayara Rodriguez, does not appear in the work.

The murdered 15-year-old girl’s best friend was also held in a private prison by Lindemberg Alves during the four days of the kidnapping, which was widely followed by the press at the time.
The teenager has been deeply affected by the case: Nayara was present when Elwa was killed and also shot by the killer, and is now serving his sentence in Tremembe.

Today, Nayyara lives a reserved life and rarely appears in interviews. This young woman’s last public appearance was in 2012, when she participated in the trial sessions of Lindbergh, who was sentenced to 98 years in prison.
According to relatives and acquaintances on social media, the victim graduated in engineering and still lives in ABC São Paulo. In 2018, Nayara was awarded compensation of R$150,000 by a São Paulo court, which acknowledged the failure of military police officers to allow her to return to captivity even after her kidnapper had already released her.
Four days later, Lindbergh shot Elwa in the head and Nyara with a bullet to the mouth. Both were rescued by military police and underwent treatment, but Elwa did not resist. The fatal victim did not survive his injuries and was confirmed to have died of brain death.
In an interview with Fantastico in 2008, Nayara explained that when police invaded the property where the young women were being held, the killer had not yet opened fire. “Sometimes I feel resigned to what happened to her, but sometimes it doesn’t seem to enter my mind,” she said at the time. “There’s no reason. Why did this happen to her?”
Why doesn’t Nayara appear in the Netflix documentary?
In an interview with CapitalsDirector Chris Ghattas and producer Veronica Stumpf, from the Netflix documentary Caso: Elóa, explained the reason for Niara’s absence. For them, the crime remains an open wound in the victim’s life.
The director explained: “I think she still carries a wound. This topic is still very sensitive for her and we respect that.” She added: “We invited and searched for all the people who were (involved in the case), but Nayyara preferred not to participate.”
