Residents of Rua Martim Francisco, in Santa Cecilia, the central district of São Paulo, are complaining of the inconvenience and dangers caused by an Enel project that closed the sidewalk in front of a residential building and continued for weeks without setting a completion date.
According to reports, this intervention is part of the maintenance of the underground electricity network, but it has caused headaches and insecurity for those living and traveling in the area. One resident said to CapitalsSince the end of September, the neighborhood has been facing recurring power problems.
One resident said: “What’s really annoying is that the sidewalk is blocked. I’ve seen mothers with strollers needing to get into the street. It’s very dangerous.”

In addition to the current inconvenience, residents claim that the neighborhood already faced power supply problems at the end of September, when a transformer burned down and left part of the apartments without electricity and internet for several days. According to residents, some apartments only have electricity in some rooms and others do not. “It was chaos.”
The power shortage also affected the routine of home-based workers. Residents were forced to look for other places to provide services, as the building remained without internet for several days. Others were left without a hot shower for three days, until a new generator was installed to supply the apartment complex.

What does Enel say?
to CapitalsEnel Distribuição São Paulo explained that since this is an underground intervention and not an aerial intervention, it is necessary to occupy part of the road and the sidewalk during service and that the repairs are aimed at ensuring power supply in the area, which is why a temporary connection has been made. The company also confirmed that there is no danger to residents, and stated that repairs are expected to be completed on November 15 and 16.
