“Exciting,” the drummer says of the Parallamas’ 40th anniversary tour

With more than four decades of uninterrupted career and preservation of the original composition, Os Paralamas do Sucesso is experiencing a moment of reconnection with the public without the pressures of searching for “success”.

In an exclusive interview with CapitalsJoão Baron states that the band is no longer interested in competing with the previous success they have already achieved. “We no longer want to chase success,” emphasizes the drummer, which has become “a great introduction to continuing to make music.”

The trio has spent the last few years on a “good schedule of shows”, culminating in the Paralamas Classicos tour to celebrate their 40th anniversary. One of these visits will be in Brasilia, next Friday (11/21), at the Estilo Brasil Festival, at the Ulysses Centro de Convenções.

What surprised the band most in this celebration cycle is the fact that their songs have no “expiry date” and they work perfectly in the present. The high point of this tour, according to Baron, was the show at Allianz Parque in June, where the band filled the stadium. He describes the moment as “very exciting,” comparing it to “renewing your visa for the next 40 years, as Herbert says.”

For a band like Paralamas, the focus has shifted from streaming statistics (although hits like “Meu Erro” and “Lanterna dos Afogados” have gotten millions of plays) to the live experience.

Barron realizes that there is a constant demand from the audience to see the show, and the band loves it and wants to live up to that expectation. “We’re doing very well where we are today,” he says.

He also summarizes the feeling of privilege in doing what he loves with the same love and passion, highlighting that the audience singing the songs is the biggest criterion for success.
